Ep 4 - From Fat to Fit Shamed
Wednesday Sep 27, 2017
Wednesday Sep 27, 2017
Pete and Gretchen start out introducing their usual glass of wine and have a little debate on how to pronounce the thing. Spoiler alert - they don't do well.
The FMC Rewind includes a "discovery" that Pete can be an idiot while discussing Big Brother. Gretchen's views from the couch continues into a bit more on reality shows before they turn to some weight loss talk. They wrap the segment with an update on Pete's training including his dose of reality from a fellow Sub-30 Club and Team E4E member.
The Topic of the Day is based on a Chicago Tribune article (link below) that discussed the fat shaming and fit shaming of women. Women have a different experience when it comes to weight gain, weight loss, and society's treatment of them as they go from fat to fit. It seems women are a bit damned if they do and damned if they don't. They delve deep into subject and try to find a way to make sense of something so frustrating.

Ep 3 - A Big Fat Discussion (or When Harvey Met Harvette)
Wednesday Sep 20, 2017
Wednesday Sep 20, 2017
Pete and Gretchen start out with their usual glass of wine and tempt you with some incredible food descriptions. The recipe for the amazing no sugar, no grains, lemon, chia seed muffins can be found on Pinterest, which Pete doesn't have, so thank you Gretchen: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/122441683602844498/sent/?sfo=1&sender=122441821027568965&invite_code=0ea5163f98ff44faa5d8fa9ab59b08fe
The start out with the FMC rewind talking about how their week went. Pete updates us on his training and how he really messed up the timing of a half-marathon signup. Gretchen's "Views from the Couch" includes some television show updates while Pete shows his shocking lack of pop culture knowledge
Then the couple tackles a big (pun intended) subject - FAT. They discuss one of Pete's early blog posts called "I'm Fat: How owning a word is changing my life." The blog post can be found here: http://fatmanchronicles.com/2016/06/25/2016624im-fat-how-owning-a-word-is-changing-my-life/
The word "fat" is often treated like a four-letter word. Is it ok to call yourself fat? Can anyone else? Is "coming out" as fat ok? How does societal views/pressure play into the lives of someone who is fat?
The most important (serious?) part of the discussion is around the difference between physical and mental fat. They tend to agree on which is tougher to shed. And all of this leads to the best reveal yet from Gretchen when she talks about a childhood story that Pete did not know about. This story alone is worth sticking around for!

Ep 2 - Triggers, the Exercise Gap & So Many Shout Outs
Wednesday Sep 20, 2017
Wednesday Sep 20, 2017
Once Pete and Gretchen get done telling you about the wine they're drinking, they delve into two big topics - Triggers and The Exercise Gap.
Pete's triggers are lead by emotion, the social side of eating, and nostalgia. Gretchen's really centers around something completely different - boredom. As they explore the reasons why they have overeaten for many years, you learn a lot about their struggles and how they overcome them. Willpower plays a key role. Is it sustainable?
In the Exercise Gap segment, Gretchen's honest take on why she is not currently exercising is something we have all dealt with. Pete is in a place where exercise is becoming habit. How do they support each other while in different phases? Maybe Pete pushes Gretchen a little far here as he tries to understand where she is at in her exercise journey. You'll have that sometimes with a couple.
The support they show each other when it comes to food, which they are doing together and on the same path, is different from how they must interact with exercise. The real-life anecdotes they share are being played out around the world as more couple combat weight and health issues.
The couple also give a ton of shout outs this episode, even doing a commercial for one of their favorite restaurants, Viaggio. (They early await the sponsorship offer). And, after the episode was recorded, Pete vowed to stop referring to good podcasting. Should any of us really believe him?
